How far should your seating be from the television for optimum viewing distance?

The rule of thumb is three times the diagonal width of the screen, that is the distance from corner to corner of your television. Take that distance and multiply it by three, then use that measurement to place your couch.

    Example: 32” TV x 3 = 96” from viewer to screen

How to work with a large space?

Large spaces are difficult to plan for but they offer many benefits. One of these benefits is the ability to accommodate many different activities. If you have an active family then work on creating different “activity zones,” such as a grouping of furniture facing a big screen TV, while also setting up reading chair or gaming table by a window. This allows the room to draw families together while also accommodating their different interests. If you use your large space for entertaining, then focus on creating “conversation groups.” Pairing barrel chairs with a side table in between them in front of a fireplace is one way that will allow guests to converse and mingle freely among themselves without the awkward ballroom effect.
